Five Herbs That Prevent Hair Fall

Are you experiencing hair loss, fall, or breakage? Research has shown that several essential oils have proven to treat hair loss associated with alopecia areata. Alternative medicine, which consist of plant based oils, essences, and resins have proved to be a successful form of treatment for hair loss. Lavender, rosemary, and thyme promote healthy hair growth and have been used for more than 100 years to treat hair loss and alopecia areata.

According to he University of Maryland, the average person looses on average 100 strands of hair a day. While it is expected to experience thinning hair as we age, it still has an emotional effect on us when our physical appearance becomes a concern. With the use of several essential oils, hair loss can either be reversed or slowed down.

Here are five herbs that can be used to treat hair fall:

Lavender: Commonly used in aromatherapy to treat stress and calm anxiety, also has antiseptic properties that can soothe and treat an irritated scalp. Its therapeutic properties can help ease symptoms of anxiousness and depression. Psychological stress can trigger hair breakage and lavender can be used during a scalp massage to aid in relaxation.

Rosemary: Often times referred to as the restorative plant, rosemary helps improve circulation to the scalp which encourages hair growth. If blood does not flow to the hair follicles they will die and this leads to hair loss. Rosemary also has anti-inflammatory properties that will help soothe a itchy, irritated scalp. Rosemary has also been proven to thicken hair and prevent premature greying.

Thyme: Helps improve blood circulation to the scalp which thicken hair strands. Along with improving circulation, thyme has astringent properties that help keep your scalp healthy and clean. Dry scalp and dandruff can also be calmed with the use of thyme.

Basil: Also has been proven to slow the loss of hair and stimulate hair growth. Basil has stimulant properties that increase blood flow to the hair follicles, hence encouraging hair growth.

Clary Sage: Contains some of the same similar elements that lavender contains. Clary sage helps reduce and sooth scalp inflammation. It also regulates oil production of the scalp and works as an antibacterial agent which helps regulate your scalp's pH, making it a natural remedy for skin infections. Sage also helps with stress reduction and the lowering of cortisol levels which reduces hair loss.

How to use:

You can mix a few drops of these essential oils into your shampoo or conditioner. You can even create your own recipe and use it as an oil that you use at night to gently massage into your scalp.
